Abstract: Since women often use popular complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)
self-treatments for menopausal symptoms, the authors reviewed randomized, controlled trials of these therapies
to test their efficacy. From searches of MEDLINE and AMED dating back to 1966, the authors
identified 29 CAM studies that fit their protocols.
They conclude that black cohosh and other foods that contain phytoestrogens
are promising for treating menopausal symptoms. The studies do not, however, support
any other herbs or CAM therapies. |
