Q:
Does Goji juice have real merit?
A: Gou
ji—actually, the proper name is Gou Qi Zi—is a well-known member of the
traditional Chinese herbalist’s arsenal of herbs and has been for thousands
of years. It is the berries from the lyceum tree. (Lycium barbarum is its
botanical name.) And yes, it has been studied for its many wonderful
properties that have been linked to tumor suppression, hematological
effects, and diabetes. The most promising research has been in the area of
liver protection and cholinergic (reducing blood pressure) abilities. Gou Qi
Zi is rich in linoleic acid (precursor to GLA), thiamine, riboflavin, and
vitamin C.
Here is one way you can get its benefits:
• Boil tea from Gou Qi Zi, and chrysanthemum flowers. The tea will be
refreshing and you will see a definite improvement in your eyes.
